This
book explains the background knowledge of wheel back in 3500 B.C. in
Mesopotamia. In Mesopotamia, wheels were made of two to three plank discs and
were and connected together with an axle. Mesopotamians realized that the
benefit of using the wheels meant that they could travel longer distances, and
they could carry larger loads. This benefited their trading with other
civilizations and made others jobs easier.

This book gave us information on how wheels were used in the earlier ages as
in carts, wagons, and chariots. All though they only talked about Mesopotamians,
they do not give all the credit to Mesopotamia because wheels were found in some
of the world’s earliest picture writings. Also, researchers found wheels and
axles in other regions of the world in the earlier ages. They were found in
graves of the northern Caucasus and in clay plots from Poland.

This
book is a primary source and basically gives us the different objects that we
use today that involve the wheel. For example, we use wheels everyday of our
life, not only in transportation but in door knobs, combination locks, pencil
sharpeners and many more. Sometimes we do not even realize that we are using it,
but also used greatly in transportation as in cars, trucks, airplanes, trains,
etc. We obviously can see that transportation is the greatest factor that use
wheels and has made the greatest impact on today’s world.

This
website talks about bikes and how without them people would still either walk or
ride horses, if they were rich. During this time period people used bicycles all
the time and it really helped them get around a lot faster. Also automobiles
were invented in 1887 and were pulled by animals, but over time automobiles have
evolved and changed the way people live in the world today. Without wheels, we
would never have any of these great inventions and we would never get around as
fast as we do.

This
website explains step by step on how in ancient times, as in 3000 B.C.-3500 B.C.
wheels were made. There are six different stages that people had to go through
to make wheels and that took time and concentration. In the fourth stage, they
discovered grooves which allowed the sledge to go a greater distance before the
next roller was placed. Later on they realized that Egyptians improved the wheel
and so did the Greeks. The Greeks used the wheels to make chariots and improved
the wheels so they could be as efficient as they are today.

This
website gives us all the information that we needed to know about trucks and how
they were used in earlier years. In the early 1900’s trucks used rubber tires
and were slow and rough, and in 1910 about 10,000 trucks were used in the
metropolitan areas for deliveries. In 1916 manufacturers realized that trucks
were going to make a huge impact in human society while using a truck to travel
from Seattle to New York City in 31 days. Trucks are an efficient way to carry
larger quantities from a warehouse to another.Without semi trucks, many products
would not be able to be use all over the country, and without wheels trucks
would never be around.

The first wheel uses were in 3200 B.C. and were used as chariots and really
helped civilizations for trading purposes. It took another 1,500 years for
others to figure out how to change the wheel and use it for different purposes.
The first people that thought of using wheels for automobiles were Andre and
Edouard Michelin. As we can see today the wheel has definitely evolved into
something that people would have never thought. From 3200B.C. to 2012, wheels
are drastically changing into newer and safer ways for others to
use.

Stated
in this article almost every machine built since the Industrial Revolution
involves some sort of wheel. The Inca, Aztec and Mayan civilizations never used
the wheel but were well developed. Plus, no evidence showed that the wheel
existed in the Western Hemisphere until after Europeans, and the wheel did not
evolve until the 19th century in Europe. The wheel became the most evolved in
Europe around the nineteenth century. As told before, the first wheels used for
transportation was in Mesopotamian and Egyptian chariots.

The
first successful wheels were not solid, but were made from boards and
fastened

together
and the edges were rounded. The theory was that a solid wheel was just not
strong enough to support any real weight for long distances, over difficult
ground. The first innovative idea to improving the wheel was by wrapping an iron
band around the wooden wheels used on carts and wagons. The first wheels were
not meant to carry weight, but over time people learned different tricks to fix
the wheels and make it better for the use of transportation.

The invention of the wheel was one of the most important inventions in
history and is still involving to this day. The exact origin is unknown, but is
believed that it was founded in Mesopotamia around 3500 B.C. The wheel that is
used for transportation helps move crops further into cities which can create
more food, and a better population. This video shows us how the wheel has
impacted our everyday life. Without the wheel we would not have the agriculture,
farming, and ability to build at the speed and strength as we have
today.

This
article explains the future of wheels and how engineers are thinking or new ways
to use the wheels for transportation. Engineers are taking transportation
vehicles to the next level and are taking their ideas to the future. These new
inventions are meant to be faster and safer than a bicycle, but more
environmentally friendly. Engineers are using electric-vehicle technology and
wireless connectivity to make this type of transportation.
