Past Uses of the Wheel
Before Mesopotamian's invented the stone wheel, civilizations had no other form of transportation besides walking. When the wheel was introduced to ancient civilizations, the first chariot was also constructed. Chariots were used to transport goods and supplies from town to town, and later from civilization to civilization. Once it was found out that the chariots could support heavy loads and travel long distances, trade between countries became very popular and more efficient. Mesopotamians were soon able to travel, move and expand their civilization all because transportation was made possible. Since trade was made possible, various civilizations could now trade pottery, food linens, medicine, etc. The evolution of transportation would not be possible without the hard work of the Mesopotamians.
